Nava varsha swagat yatra is the iconic procession of Dombivli. Shree Ganesh Mandir Sansthan started this yatra 30 years ago. The yatra starts at Bhagshala Maidan, Dombivli west and ends at Nehru Maidan, Dombivli East.
The yatra starts at 6:45 AM with hug gatherings around Bhagshala Maidan. Thousands of people gather for this yatra. Various mandals perform various activities while marching on road.
Dombivlkars of various age group, ethnicity join the yatra. The yatra brings positive atmosphere while rejuvenating people.
Various talim (dhol) pathaks perform cultural activities, play lezim, traditional dance. Huge Sanskar Bharti Rangolis are drawn at various junctions to welcome the yatra. These are drawn, a night before the yatra.
People come together a night before and clean the road for the next morning’s yatra. At midnight, Dombivlikars fire noise-less crackers similar to the 31st Dec celebrations to celebrate the new year.
NGOs also participate in this event and propagate many social messages, motivate Dombivlikars. Targeted at youths of Dombivli. Themes like women empowerment, global warming, cleanliness, education, child labor eradication, brotherhood, etc. are covered in this yatra.
Wearing traditional clothes, nauwari sarees, pagadi, feta the grand dindi continues for around 4 hours, till 10AM.
Similar yatras then started in Thane, Vile Parle and other parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka to celebrate the commencement of hindu new year.
